In June 2010, the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) and sports enthusiast Mr. Peter Lim collaborated to develop the Peter Lim Scholarship. Not only is the contribution still the biggest one made by a single person in Singapore, but its object is also to support sports development. Mr. Lim reaffirmed his commitment in 2019 by promising an extra $10 million to extend the scholarship beyond 2030.
And with the goal of ensuring that financial limitations do not stand in the way of deserving young athletes’ pursuit of their sporting aspirations, this scholarship seeks to assist them.
Furthermore, the scholarship has an intention of preventing financial limitations from impeding any young, talented athlete who has dedication to pursuing their athletic goals.
Overview of the Peter-Lim Scholarship:
The scholarship has two main goals in mind:
- Helping financially qualified athletes from difficult backgrounds reach their athletic objectives.

Categories and Awards:
There are four categories for the scholarship, and each has requirements:

Application Timeline:
- The application period opens on January 8, 2024.
- The application deadline is February 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
- Scholarship interviews for ‘High Performance (U18)’ category applicants will take place in March or April of 2024.
- May 2024: Email notification of accepted applications.
- Scholarship Award Ceremony: May 2024.
Criteria for Eligibility and Selection:
- Undergraduates enrolled full-time in any undergraduate program offered by the Institute.
- Permanent residents or citizens of Singapore.
- Have obtained success in their academic endeavors.
- Possess a per capita income (PCI) of $1,000 or less per month as a household.
- Ideally have arrived via the Polytechnic-ITE path.
- When the application process starts for the new year, current scholars who want to apply for a scholarship renewal must submit a new application. Applicants who were not selected in the past are welcome to reapply, provided they satisfy the requirements.
- Athletes that need specialized funding support that isn’t offered by the National Sports Associations’ (NSA) or Sport Singapore’s current programs will receive special consideration.
- Interested parties who are enlisting in the military or who are in the process of performing their national service have no permission to apply.
Benefits and Scholarship Requirements:
- Each $12,500 Peter-Lim scholarship is available for use for a single academic year.
- The purpose of the scholarship is to cover the beneficiaries’ educational costs, including tuition, course materials, and costs associated with authorized domestic or international study abroad excursions that the institute arranges.
- Recipients of this scholarship may be eligible to earn it again in a later academic year, provided they meet the requirements listed above, the Institute recommends it, and the Selection Committee selects them.
- Recipients are not allowed to take up more than one scholarship at once.
Categories: Primary, Secondary, Junior College, and High education
In order to be eligible for this category, a candidate must be:
- a citizen of Singapore;
- is financially deserving;
- has demonstrated exceptional performance in the year 2023 in competitions recognized by the national sports association, inter-school, zonal (primary category), national, and/or age group;
- must possess high moral character and behavior;
- must have the support of his or her school or the appropriate National Sports Association and must consent for being featuring in materials created or authorized by the Singapore Olympic Foundation, as well as to the use of his or her pictures in these materials.

Category: Advanced Performance (U18)
To fall in this category, a candidate must:
- Be a Singaporean citizen;
- on December 31, 2023, he must be under the age of eighteen.
- On that date, he must have demonstrated commendable performance in one or more regional or international sporting competitions recognized by the relevant national sports associations.
- On that date, he must not have received a Spex Scholarship or Spex Potential.
- On that date, he must have the relevant National Sports Association endorse his application.
- And on that date, he must permit for his photo so that it might have features in materials created by the Singapore Olympic Foundation.
Information about the income limits for the primary, Secondary, Junior College, and High Education Categories:
- The applicant’s gross monthly per capita income (PCI) cannot be greater than the SOF’s income cap. In order to maintain the scholarship’s relevance, the SOF Scholarship Committee may periodically evaluate this income cap.
- PCI has calculation by the division of the applicant’s gross household income by the total number of individuals residing in the same home, which may include the applicant, parents, siblings, and grandparents. The applicant must provide the original or a photocopy of the income documents for the PCI for calculation.
- During the application period, the PCI will remain totally confidential and will not disclose official proceedings.
Important note: You must include information about the income of both parents.
